Weekend Project - Yellow Paint!

This weekend I will be tackling a project I have been dreaming of for awhile! If you know me, you know I love yellow. I am going to paint an armoire that is in our guest bedroom - yellow! I bought the armoire for $50 (originally from World Market) about 2 years ago. Here are my inspiration photos. Stuart thinks I am crazy to paint it, but I am soooo excited! Blue Chair

While out thrifting on Sunday, I found this chair hidden under the store's holiday decorations. I knew I needed this chair - I loved the design of the back of it! After looking through a few magazines, I decided to try out a blue color!! The project cost only $7 and I LOVE my new chair in our kitchen!! The color looks great with my Fiestaware. :)

Front Door Decor

I was getting tired of the red wreath I had on my front door and decided and it time for a change! I found our last name initial "S" and Hobby Lobby - 50% - $5. I then found the art canvas board from Walmart - it was $5 for 3 of them. All of the other supplies I had at home. This project ended up costing me around $7!

Step one was spray painting the gold letter to RED of course! I then sanded it down and put a dark stain over it - two coats.

I covered the canvas with some leftover fabric I used in our living room. Once that was finished, I used gorilla glue and attached the S to the board. I asked Stuart twice to drill holes in the board, so I could finish it up, but he was too busy for this one. I took matters into my own hands and learned out to use a drill! It was a very exciting moment for me! I hope you enjoy!

On a side note: check out all the snow we have! Last I heard, we had 31" on the ground - expecting at least 4 more inches this weekend. Is Summer here yet?

Our Updated Guest Bathroom

We have now been living in our home for almost a year (which is hard to believe) and I had the brilliant idea to paint our upstairs guest bathroom this weekend. It was painted a dark brown color on the walls and the ceiling had been painted a light pink. I opted for a more neutral color on the walls - gray. I don't know why anyone would want to paint a ceiling pink - it was just weird. So away went the pink and in with the white! I also wanted to get rid of the semi-dated light fixture as well. 3 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint later, here are the before/after pictures.

Keep in mind - the bathroom is not 100% how I want it yet - still want to update the mirror and change the shower curtain.

Things I learned this weekend:

-Allow more than 1 day for painting

-NEVER paint a ceiling anything other than white

-Dads come in handy for changing light fixtures

-A leaky toilet can easily be fixed with a few washers

-Make sure to have beer readily available :)

-Make sure hubby makes dinner that night

Carving Pumpkin Fun!

On Wednesday, we decided to carve pumpkins. The weather has been cold and rainy, so carving pumpkins was the perfect project for us both to work on. Stuart always makes fun of me because I like to carve the "classic" pumpkin. He always needs to do something different... Here is how they turned out:

Living Room on a Budget??

I have saved the room that we use least for last when it came to decorating our home. It also happens to be the one we see the most!! We are either in the kitchen or downstairs in the family room a majority of the time. However, our living room is your first impression when you walk into our home and I want it to be beautiful!! I would love to get new couches, but not in the budget for right now...

The sconces above our TV really confuse me as to what we should do with that wall. I am open to any ideas!! We aren't "formal" people, so no need for a formal living room - just a room that looks cozy and welcoming!!

I would like some more places to put more decor and pictures and think this could work. Maybe put this shelf on one side of the sconces? What do you think?

1st Anniversary!

This weekend marks our 1 year anniversary - October 18. I can't believe we have already been married for 1 year! I am just getting used to calling Stuart my husband! What have I learned in 1 year of marriage?? Well, lots of things!! Most importantly though, I learned that I am very blessed to have such a great husband in my life!

To celebrate, we are heading to Minneapolis for the weekend. Agenda so far: Shopping - Mall of America, nice dinner to celebrate, eating our year-old cake (tradition says to save your top tier of cake for your 1 year anniversary) and Vikings game on Sunday. Stuart actually booked some nicer hotels for the weekend, so should be lots of fun!! I asked him to do one romantic thing for me this weekend, so we'll see what happens. :)
